The Five main components of Business Intelligence

• Data Extraction. An ETL tool (Extract, Transform, Load) collates and consolidates information into a centralised data repository (datawarehouse). Data can come from company information systems (CRM, ERP, datawarehouses, office applications etc) or external applications and data sources (Reuters, Bloomberg etc and websites)

• Data Analysis. Data is formatted to enable powerful business analysis (in the form of OLAP cubes for example)

• Management Reporting. A reporting component makes it possible to model and present specific information in various formats for decision makers in the form of management reports

• Dashboards. Enables the generation of performance indicators in graphic form in order to obtain a high level overview of the data

• Datamining. Enables in-depth analysis and the discovery of patterns in the data in order to discover relationships and predictable trends
